8 Top Paying Medical CareersThere are numerous other careers which are less demanding, in terms of educational requirements and working hours. Even people with a high school diploma, or an associates degree, can find a relevant job opening in this field by completing certain vocational courses or certifications.

1. Surgeons
Surgeons are undoubtedly the highest paid medical professionals in the country. They may earn anywhere between 200,000 to half a million or even more, per annum. The exact salary of a surgeon is determined by his specialty. Neurosurgeons and cardiac surgeons are amongst the highest paid surgeons. Surgeons must complete strict educational qualifications which include a college degree, a degree in medicine and a master’s degree.

2. General Physicians
General physicians also draw a handsome salary of 100,000 to 240,000 per annum. The average median salary of general physicians is 170,000. Physicians are required to complete a college degree and a degree in medicine along with an internship. Income of a physician is determined by the setting in which he works. Physicians practicing on their own, or attached to a large hospitals, have higher earning potential.

3. Dentists
Dentistry is another branch of medicine that earns a handsome remuneration. Dentists usually practice on their own, in their private clinics, or assist a senior dentist. Those practicing in their own setup may draw a median salary of $107,000 a year. A job of a dentist is one of the most attractive careers due to relaxed working hours and no emergency calls.

4. Anesthesiologists
Anesthesiologist are individuals who administer anesthesia prior to a medical procedure or surgery. They are highly qualified individuals with a degree in medicine and additional qualification in anesthetics. They may earn around $140,000 a year depending upon the setting in which they work.

5. Nurses
Nursing career is the most versatile of all medical careers and is always in demand. This career offers the maximum job opportunities in the medical field. Currently, there are around 2 million nursing professionals in the US. One can work as a nurse after acquiring a bachelor’s degree in nursing or an associate’s degree. The pay scale for both differs, as nursing graduates with a bachelor’s degree earn more than their counterparts with an associates degree. Salary for nurses ranges between $70,000 to $190,000 and is primarily dependent upon the setting in which they work.

6. Radiologists
Radiologist is a professional who is an expert in handling diagnostic equipments such as X-rays, MRI scan, CT scan etc. He carries out scans, and evaluates the results, so that the practicing physician can diagnose the condition appropriately. The average median salary for a radiologist is about $163,000 per annum.

7. Psychiatrists
Psychiatrist is a doctor of medicine with a master degree in psychiatry. He diagnoses and treats various mental illnesses and problems. A psychiatrist may earn anywhere around $123,000 a year.

8. Physiotherapists
Physiotherapist is a professional who restores the mobility in disabled patients through various physiotherapy exercises. He may practice on his own, or at a hospital. This is a good profession for those who do not wish to follow an erratic work schedule which comes with most medical careers.
