10 Health Tips To Survive During International Travel

Health Tips to survive in travelI am always astonished when people going to international travel don’t even think about place they go. You need to know all or many about country or territory you travel for rest or business. Only thinking about health can help you survive in this crazy world.

Below are some tips from foxbusiness.com with my comments for helping you travel and remain health.

1. Get advice from a travel health professional. Four to six weeks before departure, consult a travel medicine specialist for the most
up-to-date immunization, malaria recommendations and consultation. They can answer your questions and prepare you for a safe and healthy
trip. It’s important to get your immunizations early, as some of the vaccines take time to effectively protect you.

Also is good to search for the latest news or health news in this destination you travel. It can be useful and even interesting to know more about present situation there. Even your doctor or travel health professionals can be not hip to it.

2. Protect yourself from disease-bearing insects. Wear protective clothing and use products containing 20-30% DEET, the insect repellant permethrin and bed nets.

Can be useful to use anti insects sprays or ointments. You can find them in any drug store.

3. Never go barefoot, even on the beach.

There are many little or not so little things, that ca hurt your feet. It may be not only sharp stones and twigs, but even little snakes, scorpions or old boats :)

4. Make sure your water is purified. Do not use tap water when brushing your teeth.

Not each country filter well tap water, it can be not quite pure and clean. Try to use proved spring or bottle water.

5. Consume only well-cooked food. Fruits and veggies? Peel it, boil it or forget it!

Many fruits and vegetables are dirty with things and bacterias which can provoke stomach, diarrhoea or even poisoning. Do not eat fruits and vegetables you don’t know or see first time. Also do not eat any leafs and flowers, or even smell them, it can be dangerous.

6. Pre-fill your prescriptions, they may not be available at your destination. Take extra in case your trip is extended. In some countries counterfeit medications can be a problem. Carry medications in their original packaging and pack in your carry-on luggage.

7. Don’t swim in rivers, lakes, ponds and streams. Well-chlorinated pools and salt water are usually considered safe.

Swimming in unknown basin can be bad not only for your skin, but even for any body part. Remember about piranhas :)

8. Take a basic first aid kit. Include medications for pain relief, such as ibuprofen and Tylenol, topical preparations for minor skin wounds and infections, and medications for allergic reactions (Benadryl). Consider presumptive treatment (Imodium and an antibiotic) for traveler’s diarrhea. Discuss the appropriate antibiotics for your destination with a travel health specialist.

9. Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of medical problems among tourists. Avoid riding motorcycles or wear a helmet and don’t drink and drive. Wear a seatbelt and only travel during daylight hours.

Remember also about another motor vehicle riders. Keep your eyes open. Even little scooter can knock down and injure.

10. Purchase travel insurance that includes emergency medical evacuation. Most medical insurance plans aren’t accepted when you travel internationally.

Have a good journey!

great post, I travel a lot, but never even consider to ask for a travel health professional. I always travel with local tour, I guess I won’t have any problem with well-cooked food, since I’m sure they pay attention to that.
